Why more aren’t healed and what to do about it!
The reason more of our sick folk aren’t getting the healing they need is very simple in my opinion. We don’t go about our healing ministry the same way Jesus went about his healing ministry. In other words, we leave out what Jesus considered the most important step of what he did to get healing for the sick.
What thing(s) did Jesus do to produce healing that we leave out? What did he do that we aren’t doing like he did to get healing for our sick? The answer is in the following Scripture.
Matt 4:23-25
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan. (KJV)
Notice very carefully above that before Jesus healed anyone “he went about all Galilee…” Notice the word “all.” He went about “all” Galilee. But what did he do as he went about “all” Galilee?
Before Jesus laid hands on anyone for healing, he did two things; He taught in their synagogues and preached the gospel. In other words, Jesus gave them some instructions in the form of teaching and preaching. Then and only then did he enter the healing actions for their healing.
Why is this important? It is important because the reason more aren’t healed today in modern healing ministries is simply because they haven’t been given enough teaching about God’s will to heal them for them to receive the healing God has for them.
In the past, F. F. Bosworth insisted that his book, Christ the Healer, be read by as many as was humanly possible before he ever got to town with his healing meeting. Why? He found that it built faith for healing. It enabled people to believe that it was indeed God’s will for them to be healed.
Jesus recognized this fatal flaw
How can someone be healed by faith when he doesn’t know that it is absolutely God’s will to heal him/her? Jesus recognized this fatal flaw even in his own healing ministry. Therefore, he went about all Galilee, teaching and preaching in their synagogues. Then and only then did he get people healed.
Jesus did not wait to get people to his healing meeting. He went to where they were. He went throughout all Galilee. He went to the people. He did not wait for them to come to where he was. He went to where they were. Then he did three things:
25 He taught in their synagogues.
25 He preached in their synagogues.
26 He healed all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
The result of the above was that “his fame went throughout all Syria.” But this is not all by any means.
By following this order, teaching, preaching and then healing, he never had to worry about a crowd because “they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.
Furthermore, because of the system of healing Jesus used in his healing ministry, great multitudes of people followed him from “Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.”
To put this another way, we need to do more faith building teaching and preaching on healing before we start laying hands on the sick. You see, faith comes by hearing the word.
Rom 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (KJV)
To get a person faith for healing requires them to hear the teaching and preaching of the word of God on the subject of healing. Then the above Scripture will generate the faith necessary for the laying on of hands to make the healing faith connection that produces healing in their body.
Jesus did it this exact way. He taught and preached the word to them. That word he taught and preached caused faith to come. When faith came, healing was a natural next step because they realized and understood that healing was the will of God for them.
Why don’t we see more healed today? Could it be that we want to do things the lazy way and bypass the teaching and preaching and just go right into laying hands upon the sick or blowing on a crowd so we can hurry up and parade some of them upon the stage? This will not do what Jesus wants done in healing ministries.
Jesus wants the word of healing taught and preached first
He wants the word of healing taught and preached first so healing faith can come and his people can be healed. He operated using the above order. But there is more!
As faith is built for healing, it affects an entire region. Everyone begins to know healing is for them. They learn it’s the will of God. Consequently, healings begin to take place every where. Read the eighth chapter in Matthew's gospel.
17 In verses 2 through 4, Jesus healed a leper.
18 In verses 5 through 13, Jesus healed the centurion’s servant.
19 In verses 14 through 15, Jesus healed Peter’s mother-in-law.
20 In verse 16, Jesus healed all that were sick.
But there is still more. The region becomes more and more affected with miracle working faith as a result of Jesus’ teaching and preaching faith building messages in their synagogues and in their streets. Two stunning things happened in the fifth chapter of Mark.
21 In verses 1 through 20, Jesus cast out the demons and healed the man in the tomb.
22 In verses 25 through 34, Jesus healed the woman who had an issue of blood for 12 years.
23 In verses 35 through 43, Jesus raised Jairus’ little daughter from the dead.
Yes, we need to do things Jesus’ way.
24 He went everywhere.
25 He taught them the healing message.
26 He preached to them the healing message.
By doing things His way, we will never have to worry about getting a crowd. Jesus did not have to worry about it. He did not have to worry about faking healings either. Do it his way by building faith for healing first. Then the healing will come. And when they do, no one will have to try to fool the crowd about them. They will be real and they will be testable. Praise God for the open, honest and effective ministry of Jesus. But there is still more.
What Jesus did about the unbelieving regions
In Jesus’ hometown, he experienced what most of us go through with our own families. The old cliché says it best: “Familiarity breeds contempt.” Obviously, they did not accept his words nor his power ministry because they knew him simply as the carpenter son of Joseph and Mary. See below.
Mark 6:1-6
1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching. (KJV)
Notice in verse 2 that he did not get to teach them the full faith message. They tuned him out as he “began to teach.” They never heard him out. They stopped him before he even got started.
They raised their familiar memories in their minds as the reasons they should tune him out. They remembered that he was just a carpenter. They also “knew” his “parents” and “brothers” and his “sisters” who still lived among them.
Notice carefully verse 3! “They were offended at him.”
But Jesus made a statement in verse 4 that has been a faith builder for us all as we sometimes need encouragement to go on. He said that “familiarity breeds contempt.” He said a prophet has no honor in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Because of the unbelief above, Jesus could do no mighty works there. He was only able to heal a “few” sick folk. In other places, he healed them “all.” But here, in the unbelieving region, he could not heal them all nor do any might work.
So what did Jesus do about this unbelief? First, he was startled by it. He “marveled at it.” But then, he went about to correct it.
“He went round about their villages, teaching!” He overcame ignorance and lack of faith with teaching. He taught them the word of God so that faith could come. “Faith cometh by hearing...the word of God.”
The Benefits of Membership in the Abrahamic Seed Group
Healing is one of the benefits of being a member of the Abrahamic Seed Group. It is not the only benefit but it is certainly one of the.
Ps 103:2-5
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
(KJV)
Look at the following list from Psalm 103:
17 He forgiveth all our iniquities.
18 He healeth all our diseases.
19 He redeemeth our life from destruction
20 He crowneth us with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
21 He satisfieth our mouth with good things resulting in an eagle like renewal of our youth.
In this short section from Psalm 103, we are staggered at what belongs to us because we are members of the Abrahamic Seed Group. We don’t have to fret, we don’t have to pout, and we don’t have to cry for them. We already have these benefits.
This list doesn’t say what God may do for us if we do such and such. This list positively declares what God is already doing for us now. These are present hour benefits. No wonder Peter said that His stripes already healed us in the past and God is applying that past act of healing to us today as a present hour benefit. No wonder Isaiah said His stripes are healing us. Healing is a present hour benefit. Let us bless the Lord with all our soul and never forget His wonderful benefits.
God’s method for healing
We have said that God uses his word to heal his people. Of course we all know that He does everything according to his word. This is especially true when it comes to our healing. See the following Scripture.
Ps 107:20
20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. (KJV)
According to the above, what did he send to heal them? Did he send his preacher to heal them? No. Did he send his cow to heal them? No. Did he send his armies to heal them? No. What, then, did he send? He sent his word and healed them. But that’s not all yet.
His sent His word and it not only healed them, it also delivered them from their destructions. Think of this! His word heals our sicknesses and also delivers us from any destruction the devil can throw at us. But does this destruction come from the devil?
John 10:10
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (KJV)
For any thinking person, the thief can be no other than the devil. When a destructive attack comes against your home, your job, your business, your children and your friends, that attack comes from the thief. His nature is to steal and to kill and to destroy.
Contrast this with what Jesus does. He comes to give life, even a life that is more abundant. He gives a more abundant life. He gives. The thief steals. So where does this lead us?
When the thieving enemy brings sickness and destruction of any kind or fashion, remember that our God has already sent his Word to counterattack for us. His sent Word will off set everything the devil tries to do to us.
